Melco Crown Entertainment Ltd. announced that Nobu Hotel will be the second major hotel brand at the casino it is building in Paranaque City.
The luxury hotel chain will be located at the City of Dreams Manila, an integrated casino, resort, hotel, retail and entertainment resort that is slated to open in mid-2014. Hollywood chef Nobu Matsuhisa and acting legend Robert de Niro are among the investors behind Nobu restaurants and hotels.
The Philippine International Balloon Festival 2014 will be held in Lubao, Pampanga on April 10 to 13 2014, according to Mr. Noel Castro, Jr., Chairman of the newly established corporation registered as Pilipinas International Balloon Festival Inc.
Mr. Castro said the annual festival has been moved to its new location in view of the air traffic situation in aviation-related activities at the Clark International Airport where some ten (10) international and domestic airlines now operate.
Some 1.7 million people visited Enchanted Kingdom (EK), the country’s largest theme park, in 2013. Enchanted Kingdom Chairman and President Mario Mamon said the number of visitors dropped to 1.7 million last year. "In the second half of 2013, the foot traffic was not good because of the bad weather conditions and the Typhoon Yolanda. Most of our group bookings last December were cancelled," he said.
More foreign tourists are flocking to Legazpi City for the chance to interact with whale sharks, known locally as ‘butanding,’ which have stayed in the waters of Albay Gulf close to the seaport.
Donsol town in neighbouring Sorsogon has been known as the capital of butanding interaction in the country, an experience sought by guests from all over the world. That adventure is now also being offered in Legazpi City.
Three hotels in the Philippines have been recognised in the 2014 Travellers’ Choice Awards of TripAdvisor, a popular travel ratings website. Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa in Cebu and Discovery Shores in Boracay were included in the Top 25 Hotels for Families–Asia. Shangri-La Mactan ranked sixth, while Discovery Shores landed in 24th place.
The Bureau of immigration has started issuing new embarkation and disembarkation cards for passengers on all international airports in the Philippines in March 2014.
The new cards are funded by the government free of any advertisements, the bureau said in a statement. In the past practice, it was the airline companies that printed the cards and even photocopied them when the original forms ran out. Advertisers also used to pay to be featured in these cards.
A total of 12,900 new hotel rooms will open over the next three years as property developers aggressively invest in the hotel and leisure sector to serve foreign tourists who are expected to reach 10 million by 2016.
Colliers International Philippines Research Analyst Romeo Arahan Jr. said more than 4,000 new hotel rooms are expected to be delivered annually from 2014 to 2016. This would represent the highest number of delivered units since 1988.

The DOT unveiled its “Tourism Star Philippines,” which are awards meant to drive home the unique virtues of hospitality, fun and creativity of tourism projects that make visiting the Philippines a unique experience for tourists.
Filipinos have been identified as one of the fastest growing travel spenders among emerging markets in 2013. The United Nations World Travel Organization (UNWTO) said the Philippines’ outbound expenditure grew 18 percent in 2013, second highest in the list of top travel spenders following Turkey, which registered a 24-percent growth.
Other emerging markets with substantial growth in outbound expenditure were Qatar (18 percent); Kuwait (15 percent); Indonesia, (15 percent); Ukraine (15 percent); and Brazil (14 percent).
