Underground River as World Wonder

Filipinos are encouraged to vote for the Philippines' Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the world’s Seven New Wonders of Nature, according to Manila Bulletin.  The Subterranean River Natural Park, also known as the Underground River, is the only Philippine entry that qualified for the global search.  From over 440 participating locations in 220 countries, the Underground River was chosen as one of the 28 finalists for the final voting to determine the Seven New Wonders of Nature that will be announced on 11th November 2011.

Cebu was cited as the “Best Honeymoon Destination” during the World Trade Fair 2010 in Shanghai, China, according to a report by BusinessMirror.  Tourism Secretary Ace Durano welcomed the award which was given by the Shanghai Tourism Municipal  Administration, VNU Exhibitions Asia and Shanghai International Conference Management Organisation.

Camarines Sur province in Bicol region has transformed from a bucolic and largely agricultural province into a prime tourism and investment destination over the past six years.
The province, which placed 39th in terms of revenue with only PhP655 million in 2004, is now the 10th richest province in the Philippines after doubling its 2004 revenue.  This was credited to the entrepreneurial skills of Governor Lray Villafuerte who developed the CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC), which is now a world famous water sports destination.

Swiss Global Connect USA began the first phase of its multi-billion-peso project in Zambales province. The company has committed to invest US$50 billion for infrastructure projects, property development, tourism, mining and an agricultural research centre in the area, according to Zambales Governor Amor Deloso.  Swiss Global will implement the project under the government’s build, operate and transfer and build, operate and own programmes.

Caramoan Island in Camarines Sur province has been chosen once again as the location of an edition of the hit reality game show Survivor.  Survivor shot the two international versions of the show on the island in the past.  This time, Survivor Israel is filming another edition of Hisardot (Survivor) at the Gota Village Resort in Caramoan. The show is to be telecast in Israel until June 2010, according to a report by People's Tonight.

CamSur is the fastest growing spot

Visitors in Camarines Sur or CamSur surged by 117.2 percent to 1.57 million in 2009, led by the promotion of the province as an adventure destination.  International and local events such as the First Aqua Fest Celebrity Challenge, Ironman 70.3 Triathlon, International Dragon Boat Competition and Bagasbas Summer Surf, boosted domestic visitors to CamSur by 140 percent to 1.3 million.

A lake within a lakeA recent visit to Batangas province has been a rewarding experience for our small group of trekkers looking for a unique weekend just outside Metro Manila.  The Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association (PIRA) made the trip possible.

The group headed south, about 80 kilometers from Manila, via the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway until we reached the idyllic lakeshore town of Talisay, where flowers bloom all around.

Rice Terraces in the PhilippinesBanaue Rice Terraces, which has been recently named as one of the 50 greatest travel destinations in the world, has gained another distinction on the pages of TNT, one of the top travel magazines in the United Kingdom. The premier travel and lifestyle magazine came out with a four-page, full-color article, and a front-page mention of the rice terraces.

Prior to this, the National Geographic Traveler magazine, in its October 2009 anniversary edition, included the Rice Terraces of the Cordillera in the 50 places of a lifetime, highlighting the world's greatest travel destinations.  The National Geographic described the rice terraces as "masterpieces of agrarian art."
