Tourism Secretary Ace Durano witnessed the unveiling of the Open Doors monument at the Rishon Lezion Memorial Park in Israel on June 21.
“This monument commemorates the Philippines’ selfless efforts in opening the country for thousands of Jews, where they found a safe haven during a difficult period in their history. It is indeed an honour to remember this strong connection, at a time when the world is faced with a lot uncertainty and challenges,” said Durano.
Promising an even bigger and better event this year, Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ace Durano has again raised the bar by targeting over 200 Buyers for the Philippine Travel Exchange (Phitex) slated for 2-3 September 2009 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
According to Durano, “This year’s Phitex is envisioned as a strong avenue for tourism linkages amongst stakeholders in the industry. In a time of economic challenges, it is important to work together to find alternative solutions and creative programs to address these.”

May 14, 2007 - The P8.759-billion Iloilo Airport Development Project, the the first and largest of the 16 airports that are under development in the Central Philippines tourism super region, will officially open in June 2007.
Millions of Filipinos and foreign tourists have witnessed the spectacular fireworks during the 2nd World Pyro Olympics that lit up the sky of the Esplanade area of the Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City. The Philippines and nine competing countries - Australia (defending champion), China, Germany, Korea, Russia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States - participated in the amazing displays of fireworks on the 5th to the 7th and 12th to 13th of January 2007.
The Department of Tourism will participate in the Spa Industry Seminar, an international spa event to be held at Shangri-la Mactan Island and Resort in Cebu on September 15 to 17, 2006. The country will also host the Wellness Summit in 2007 at EDSA Shangri-la Hotel in Mandaluyong City where some 500 to 800 foreign participants are expected to attend.
