More flights are expected to be launched soon between the Philippines and Canada, after the two countries adopted a new air services agreement.
Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) Executive Director Carmello Arcilla said the new air agreement between the Philippines and Canada amended the one signed in December 2008.
The new agreement increased the frequency entitlement for each side from seven flights a week to 14. Fifth freedom was also increased from four to five per week. The parties also agreed to allow the airlines of both sides to enter into third country codesharing.
Philippine Airlines is the only airline operating to Canada under the agreement, with seven flights a week. The fifth freedom allows an airline to carry revenue traffic between countries as a part of services connecting the airline's own country. It is the right to carry passengers from one's own country to a second country, and from that country to a third country.
This is the fifth successful air services agreement signed by the Philippines this year, after those with Myanmar, New Zealand, France and Singapore.
